Can You Dig It?

Can You Dig It?

Has digging in the flower beds become the favorite outdoor pastime for your playful pooch?

Here are a few simple tips to help stop this exasperating excavation. Some dogs, especially terriers, are genetically prone to dig. But most dig out of frustration and boredom, often when left alone in the yard. Regular mental stimulation from daily play and training can go a long way toward curtailing this canine habit.

Dogs also dig to uncover cooler earth to lay down and chill out. So bring pets into the AC on hot summer days, and make sure plenty of cool water is always available.

Finally, if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em! Designate a place in the yard as an acceptable digging pit. Burying toys or bones in your chosen spot can let Fido know where it’s OK to dig. If this leads to a dirty dog, try a cool bath as another way to beat the summer heat.
