If you want to vacation with your pet this summer, you’ll need to do some advance scouting.

First, make sure your pet’s health and temperament are up to the trip you have in mind. You may love planes, trains and automobiles, but does your pet? Some forms of travel won’t allow pets at all. And for those that do, be sure you know how your pet will be kept cool and safe.

If all is a go, make sure your pet’s identification and rabies vaccination tags are up to date. Microchipping your pet is also a great idea, especially before travel.

Your pet needs a health certificate when crossing state or international lines. You may also need to plan ahead for required vaccinations or diagnostic tests.
