Halloween may be treat time for you, but it can be tricky for your furry family member. For example, just because you like to dress up doesn’t mean your pet does! Costumes can cramp your pet’s style by constricting movement and interfering with sight, hearing or vocalization. Fabrics and trims can even become dangerous chew toys.

Some animals, such as black cats, can become targets of vicious Halloween pranks. It’s best to keep your pets inside when goblins are on the prowl.

Treats can be treacherous too, so keep all candies, gums and wrappers away from pets. Even candle-lit pumpkins can be unsafe for curious creatures.

Make sure pets stay away from the front door, where strangers in costumes can frighten them. That also prevents animals from dashing outside when trick-or-treaters arrive.
