High-tech gadgets with heartfelt goals

In our tech-saturated society, there is a gadget for everyone. The best are the ones that can save lives.

A case in point is a new pet ID tag containing a lot more information than meets the eye. The tag shows your phone number and a web address where your pet’s profile can be found. But the best part is the tag’s embedded NFC, or near field communication, technology. Simply put, a bar code allows the immediate transfer of information when the tag is gently tapped against another NFC-enabled device, like a smartphone.

If a person finds your pet wearing this bar-coded tag, a simple tap with a smartphone can display important information like contacts, medications, vaccination history, license and rabies tag data, a microchip number and pet insurance information.

A device that helps reunite pets with their families is more than just a technological toy.
