If you’re a kid who wants to take care of a pet, listen up!
Your pet depends on your family for all of its needs, like a clean, safe home with a place to eat, another to sleep and a toilet area. Cats use a litter box, but dogs go outside to do their business. Either way, you need to clean up after them. Even pets that spend lots of time outside need a shelter, and all pets should come inside at night. And remember, don’t let your pet go outside alone to run free.
All animals need plenty of clean water and a healthy diet. Treats are off limits unless your veterinarian approves. All pets, from gerbils to Great Danes, need exercise and activity so they won’t get bored. And if your whole family gently enforces rules, your pet will learn how to behave.
Most of all, give your pet lots of love, and you’ll be the best of pals.
