If a kitten is about to join your family, you’re probably wondering how you can make your home a welcome place for your new purring pal.

First, take a look at your living space through a cat’s eyes. Cats crave cleanliness, so make sure the litter box is easy to see and reach. Cats also have a penchant for off-the-ground places; a comfy perch near a window serves well. Hiding spots are also important; an open cat carrier can be a secure hideaway.

Provide a scratching post or cat tree to enable their feline instincts while saving your furniture. Kittens have energy galore, particularly in the morning and evening. If your kitty plays with toys during the day, nighttime will more likely be saved for sleeping.

Above all, stay calm and don’t force the introductions. As your kitty comes across something new, offer a treat and a loving pet.
