“One Health” is more than a catchphrase bandied about in the media. It stands for the health of our remarkable planet.

These days, almost everything and everyone on Earth is interdependent. One Health brings together the interests of veterinary medicine, human medicine and environmental health for the common goal of healing what ails our interconnected world.

Veterinary medicine, with its multi-species focus, plays a particularly crucial role in One Health. Some of the topics on which veterinary researchers are focusing their attention include zoonotic infectious diseases (that is, diseases that spread from animals to people), defending the world’s food supply and improving medical care for people and animals.

The bottom line is that we’re all in this together. Each of us can make a difference to the One Health of our precious planet.
