Giving them a second chance

Who doesn’t love the cute kittens and playful puppies at animal shelters? It’s no wonder these little fur balls are the first to be adopted. But older animals need homes too, and they can be just as endearing in their own right.

Senior cats have already developed into their bodies and personalities, so they’re pretty much open books. And while kittens love to cavort, senior cats generally opt for a cozy nap over getting into mischief.

The same goes for older dogs who’ve already been housetrained and know basic commands. Senior canines are past the chewing stage, and although they need to stay fit, they require far less exercise than their younger counterparts.

For these reasons and more, pairing older animals with older adults is a particularly good match. Studies have shown that, at any age, pets can lower blood pressure and reduce stress — so consider sharing in their golden years.
