Don’t trade your vet for the Internet

The Internet tempts us with answers to all questions. But surfing the Web isn’t the best way to diagnose and treat your sick pet.

Though information is rife online, it’s not always backed by expertise. Well-intended advice from bloggers or forum members may lead you astray, costing you time and anxiety while your pet gets no better. In worst case scenarios, time wasted or ill-advised treatment could cost your pet its life.

Still, the Internet has lots to offer. Your veterinarian can suggest some informative websites. You might even be able to connect with other folks facing similar pet problems. And if you read about a cutting-edge treatment, chances are your vet would be more than willing to discuss it with you.

But the bottom line? When it comes to creature comforts, don’t trade your vet for the ‘net.
