Rescuing cats is a good deed, but you may end up with too many felines for your own good — or theirs.

Do you ever think you’ve crossed that line? Remember, it’s not the number of cats you have but how they’re cared for. Are they content and well fed? Do you spend time with each cat and note if anything’s off? All cats have to be kept clean and need routine veterinary care. And cats in mixed-gender company need to be fixed to prevent more kitties.

Next, examine your home. Is it clean? Does it smell fresh or can you only detect eau de litter box? How about the condition of your furniture and floors?

Last but not least, how do you feel about your clan of cats? Do they make you happy or are you overwhelmed?

Answers to these questions can help you determine whether less would actually be more.
