Repelling raccoons

Whether you hail from a rural, suburban or urban locale, you may be obsessed with outwitting raccoons. These rascals are unfazed by anyone, roam anywhere at night and eat about anything they find. So how can they be stopped?

The key is keeping raccoons out of certain areas so they have to look elsewhere for snacks. That’s something they’ll remember. You can try taste repellants or place small piles of cayenne pepper or dishes of ammonia near their trails, dens or digging sites. Motion-sensing lights or sprinklers may also scare them off. And for those raccoons that still make it to your trash can, you can foil a raid if the can is secured to a fence and has a locking top.

If a raccoon gets into or under or your house, call a professional who uses raccoon-friendly methods to get him out and on his way.
