The truth may hurt — but your pet deserves it

Honesty is always the best policy when it comes to doing right by your pet — even if that makes for an awkward encounter.

Our pets can suffer serious consequences if they get into marijuana or other illegal drugs. So if this happens to your furry friend, take him to the veterinary clinic right away. And when the veterinarian asks you to provide all the information you have, be honest in your buddy’s best interest.

Veterinarians don’t report poisoning by illegal drugs to authorities unless they suspect it’s intentional. Then it’s a matter of animal abuse. But if your veterinarian suspects the intoxication was accidental, her only concern is treating your pet as quickly and effectively as possible.

So don’t be afraid to fess up. The information you provide will likely be the key to your pet’s recovery.
