Bringing up puppy

When you’re the proud parent of a new puppy, you want to get it right. And one of the best ways to protect your little buddy is to teach it to get along with others.

The most critical period of socialization occurs during a puppy’s first three months of life. Of course, the process should start the minute you bring the little guy home. But veterinary behaviorists also recommend you enroll your puppy in puppy classes as soon possible — and certainly before that critical three-month window closes.

Class-time interaction with other dogs and people helps a puppy gain confidence and learn to play safely. It decreases the chances it will become fearful or aggressive. Classes also help puppy parents form realistic goals for their canine companions.

Along with vaccinations, early socialization is a key way of investing in your puppy’s wellbeing.
