It’s more than a walk in the park

Dog parks are pooch playgrounds, and for most of our canine companions, it doesn’t get any better than that. But you need to do your part. Here are some things to think about when considering a day at the park with your pooch.

First, don’t take your pup to the park if she’s less than 4 months old and hasn’t had all her vaccinations. Also, don’t allow one dog to bully another or let dogs gang up. If you have a shy dog, avoid crowded parks. If your pooch is aggressive, it’s also best to stay away. Refrain from giving your dog treats or toys when other dogs are nearby. And don’t let your pooch off-leash unless he obeys your spoken commands.

Most of all, be alert to your dog’s behavior. Some dogs may love to romp with others, but yours might prefer to stop and smell the roses. Either way, it’s chicken soup for the canine soul.
