Airport security could be going to the dogs

If you plan to travel this summer, you may be wondering if there’ll be a fix for those long airport security lines. Some officials think the answer is going to the dogs.

Canine security screeners are dogs trained to smell bomb-making materials on people or in bags. Some airport officials believe the pooches’ detection abilities could expedite the screening process. A bonus is that many folks waiting in line find comfort in the company of dogs. And for those who don’t, they can opt for screening by a two-legged operator.

As for the dogs, they love their work — as well as the food, toys and verbal rewards they receive. And after a long day at the office, they get to head home with their handlers.

So if you see an airport security dog, don’t distract him with a pat. Just send him a silent thank you for a job well done.
