The Veterinary Community Outreach Program at the University of Florida is one of a handful of programs in the country that provides state-of-the-art veterinary expertise to animals taken in by rescue groups needing spay-neuter surgery and occasionally other medical procedures. Not all rescue shelters, however, are capable of transporting animals to state-of-the-art facilities for such care. To meet that need, some programs have developed a mobile approach to enable veterinary shelter professionals to take their services where they are most needed. Dr. Brian DiGangi will discuss how UF was able to launch a new mobile program this fall to meet that area need.
