If you watch your weight, you know it’s not about snacking but what’s in the snack that counts. The same goes for your dog.
If you mean to get—or keep—your pooch in tip-top shape but still want to show the love, it’s all about healthy snacks. Dogs are omnivores—that is, they eat other foods in addition to meat. So, many foods that are healthy for you are also fine for your dog. Ingredients like whole wheat flour, sweet potatoes, veggies and even some fruits are all on the A list.
But there are some no-nos—like grapes, raisins, avocados and onions. And stay far away from chocolate, caffeine, macadamia nuts and yeasty dough.
You might even consider whipping up a few homemade snacks for your best buddy. After all, just as in people, one way to a dog’s heart is through his stomach.
