It’s a dog’s…apartment

If you’re a pet parent who has struggled to rent a critter-friendly apartment, this story is right in your wheelhouse.

The National Apartment Association recently reported that pet-centric amenities are among the 5 most sought-after features in apartment complexes. That’s because about 75 percent of renters have pets.

Some would-be landlords are now taking serious steps to attract pet parents. That might mean relaxing restrictions on the number and size of pets. And built-in amenities can run the gamut from leash-free dog parks and pet-sitting services to in-house grooming salons and turf-lined play decks.

Pet parents pay more for these comforts, but many think it’s worth it. In other cases, animal advocacy groups might even help foot some of the bills.

It might not be a sea change yet, but it’s sure looking like a dog’s life.
