One Health is a term used to connote the connected efforts between multiple disciplines who work locally, nationally and internationally to optimize health for animals, people and the environment. Many people may not know that due to their expertise, veterinarians play a key role in One Health. Dr. Ilaria Capua, who leads the University of Florida’s One Health Center of Excellence, will discuss the veterinarian’s role in public health issues, including the management of zoonotic diseases – those spread between humans and animals – protection of our food supply and monitoring of disease-causing agents in soil and water.
